Digital version (2015 – 2016)
Since 2006, the Center for Health Promotion at Akershus University Hospital has developed and led a number of educational group-based counseling programs for parents of children with special needs, namely “Competent Parents” in 2006 and “Equity for Parents” in 2011. Overall, we have received very positive feedback from parents regarding their experience in both programs. In addition, most have implemented long-term changes in their everyday lives that they continue today.
Due to the positive feedback received, we have now developed an online digital program based on the original group content. The aim by implementing the program through this modality is to widen our audience and reach even more parents who may not otherwise be able to participate with the important knowledge gained through this program.
The online program is divided into seven modules. Each module consists of short videos with information from past participants’ experiences, as well as past group leaders, text and exercises.
The professionals you will see in the videos are program coordinator and project leader, Karen Therese Sulheim Haugstvedt and clinical social worker/team leader Knut Andersen.
